| When an aircraft manufacturer, or Rotax engine purchaser receives
his engine it comes with a number of things. |
|
- A tool kit
- A carburator(s)
- Fuel pump
- Exhaust
- Exhaust springs
- Spark plugs
- Warranty form
- Engine manual
- Intake socket(s) and clamps
- Electrical connectors
- Two rubber carb grommets for each carb
|
Properly installed grommets, note how they seal
around the cable to prevent water from entering the carburetor .

 These
grommets play an important role in safe ultralight flying!
While
walking around an airshow, it was hard not to notice that of 10
aircraft inspected 6 of them either had grommets that were cracked
or missing completely.In one case a hole where the choke cable
would normally have resided was left wide open to the elements,
and the throttle cable
adjuster had NO grommet on it.
 Without the grommets rain, or early morning dew can collect on
the cable and then run down the cable into the carburetor.
This water then sinks to the bottom of the carb which is where the
MAIN jet is, which supplies fuel to the engine! |
