Sky Rider Inc. of Virginia was at the show with an all metal two place
ultralight called the Savannah. The Savannah 740 has been in production in
Italy for five years, and is now being offered in the U.S. in both factory
built and kit form. The kit should take between 250 hours and 300 hours
to complete. No fabrication is required, as all of the parts come
preformed and predrilled. A pneumatic riveter, cleos and a cleco tool are
supplied with the kit.
With the kit comes a very concise and easy to follow step by step
manual with many drawings and actual photographs of assemblies. According
to the factory the Savannah can be built in an area as small as a single
car garage, with standard shop tools.
The Savannah features dual throttle and rudders with a center mount Y
joystick, and is equipped with flaperons. Power can be supplied by a
variety of engines including the Rotax 582, Rotax 912 series, the Jabiru
3300, and the 72 hp 2si two stroke engine.
When equipped with the 912S 100 hp Rotax take off distance is 75 feet,
climb comes in at over 1,000 feet per minute, cruise a respectable 95 mph,
and stall with flaps below 35 mph.
The Savannah comes standard with two 9.5 gallon wing tanks and a 2
gallon header tank.
