CGS Hawk - Raven Redrive
LouAnn and Fred Anderson of Tampa Florida in L A Blues

Wanted good woman, with plane and hangar, must be able to clean, cook sew, and navigate, Please send pictures of plane and hangar!

If Fred Anderson were the one to post this classified ad he got all of that and more. Two years ago Fred decided he wanted to build a CGS Hawk - his wife LouAnn told him to go ahead but only if she could "decorate it."

Fred wondered "how do you decorate an plane" he found out soon enough. After nearly two years of part time building, it came time to "decorate." After Fred had painted a basic white coat on the plane LouAnn started painting L A BLUES -  "denim and leather."

Using a horse hair brush she meticulously applied a paint scheme to their CGS Hawk that had to be seen to be believed. Once finished with the painting she then went on to cover the seats, instrument panel and interior in leather.

Fred has owned three other ultralights and decided to build the CGS Hawk after talking to Terry Fuller a long time ultralight pilot and instructor. According to Fred, "Terry felt that the Hawk was the most stable light aircraft that he had ever flown."

He also talked to Chuck from CGS about the plane because he wanted to put use a Metro Geo engine with a Raven Redrive as a power plant.

Fred purchased low mileage Metro Geo engine from a wrecking yard, and the Raven Re-drive kit. The installation weighs in at 13 lbs. more than a 582 Rotax and puts out  63 hp.

The Raven redrive comes with instructions on how to connect all of the electrical components used on the Metro Geo. This allows for the use of both "idiot lights" and gauges plus still gives access to the "engine service light" which allows for engine diagnostics using the on board computer.

Fred says " the Hawk cruises smoothly along at 65 mph using less than two gallons of fuel per hour, and when I need parts I just drop into my local NAPA store."
