One of the fastest growing segments of ultralight aviation is the PPG or
Powered Para Gliders. These units are easily transportable in the back of
most cars, easy to store, and supply a very unique personal flying
experience. The biggest problem for the manufacturers has been in finding a reliable, light weight power plant to power their gliders. This year at Sun N Fun Sky Engines of Italy introduced the Sky 100. The Sky 100 is a single cylinder 102 cc liquid cooled two stroke power plant, with a centrifugal clutch and 4 to 1 gear reduction drive that puts out an amazing 18 hp and yet weighs in at only 11 kg - 24.25 lbs . According to the manufacturer this allows a 3 blade 48 inch propeller to be used, which makes for low noise and smooth engine operation. Thrust tests have shown over 60 kg - 132 lbs of thrust.
