The Sundog Powered parachute was introduced at Sun N Fun 2003. The Sundog
is a side by side seating (rather than tandem found on most designs) PPC.
With this set up a wide bench seat is used, and when flown solo the pilot
just moves over to the center of the seat, and uses the two outside
control arms. The Sundog also has dual throttle, dual control systems
and both instructor and student have access to the instruments, ignition
switches and hand manipulation of the steering lines.
Instead of 2 pick up points used on most PPC's the SunDog uses side
rails and 4 pick up points this means that the chute is not effected by
pilot weight or the amount of fuel on board.
The airframe is constructed from 6061T6 aluminum tubing, with all of
the main frame tubing being 1 1/2" x 1/8" wall thickness for maximum
strength. All of the tubing is powder coated. Massive spring over gas
shocks are used on the suspension system, and the dyna focal engine mount
helps eliminate unwanted vibration, from either the 503 or Rotax 582
engines.
A castered offset nose wheel fork makes the cart go straight on landing
or takeoff unless the stick is used to turn. Both a 5 and 10 gallon
rotationally molded fuel tank are available. The tanks are opaque and the
fuel level can be seen via small mirrors mounted on the airframe.
The craft comes equipped with the EFI instruments system, is fully
assembled, rigged, and has had the Rotax engine break in procedure
completed.
The Sundog is also available a single place version.
