Ragwing Special 11 - A number of years ago Roger Mann introduced his L'il'
Aircamper to the ultralight market at Sun N Fun. This was a single
place all wood aircraft in a high wing parasol design. In 1993 he
brought out his Ragwing Special another all wood design, but in a bi-plane
configuration. According to Roger "over 350 Ragwing Special kits
have been sold, and over 850 plan sets." This year Roger was at the show
with the latest in his series of aircraft the RagWing Special 11.
The RagWing Special 11 is a two place, all wood Pratt truss
construction (no lattice) aircraft kit. Roger indicates that he is
currently building a Ragwing with a steel fuselage with a 912 engine on it
which he expects to have at Airventure in August. The plane on display had
28 hours on it and was powered by a 503 Rotax 50 hp engine using a belt
reduction drive.
With this power the craft cruises at 85 mph, climbs out solo at 800
feet per minute, 400 dual, with a stall speed of 35 mph. Empty weight with
the Rotax 503 is 390 lbs and a gross of 850 lbs. letting it easily fit
into the current U.S. two place training exemption.
According to the hand out sheet taped to the plane it can be powered by
engines from 50 to 115 hp.
An info package is $5.00 and a video on CD or VHS can be purchased for
$10. Plans should be available by the time you read this, and kits are
available for delivery.
