Murphy Aircraft had the latest version of the JDM 8 at the show. The JDM 8
is an all metal single place aircraft that can meet the U.S. Part 103
definition. The unit at the show however was had a shorter wing, with a
new cowl, and the 4 stroke 2 cylinder 60 hp HKS engine from Japan. This version of the JDM 8 is intended for the experimental category in the U.S. plus the amateur built and ultralight category in Canada. With it's shorter 21 foot wing span, and the HKS engine, the empty weight of the craft comes in at 385 lbs. Cruise speed is 95 to 100 mph, climb 1500 feet per minute, with a stall of 35 mph. The standard kit from the factory takes between 600 and 800 hours to build. |
