Daniel Roche of Aerolites Aviation manufactures of the Aero Skiff a two
place amphib, the Aeromaster an ag spray plane, and the Bearcat a single
place ultralight was at the show. Daniel now offers a sliding canopy for
the Aeromaster spray plane. The canopy allows the pilot to get out of the
wind while flying, and cuts down on the noise but can be slid back while
in flight for open cockpit flying.
Aerolites also had their Bearcat on display at Sun N Fun for the first
time. The Bearcat is a single seat tail dragger in a tractor
configuration. It uses a welded 4130 steel fuselage, and aluminum tube and
ladder style construction in the wings, covered in dacron sail cloth. The
craft has been tested to +6 and -4 in static load tests.
When powered by the 447 Rotax 42 horsepower engine the Bearcat takes of
in 150 feet, climbs out at 750 feet per minute, cruises at 65 mph, and
stalls at 27 mph. Optional engines include the Rotax 503, and 582.
Controls are standard stick and rudder with a center mounted stick and
left hand throttle. The plane comes standard with military style should
and lap belts, and features a 360 degree roll cage cockpit.
Kit construction takes between 70 and 110 hours and requires only an
electric drill, wrenches, screwdrivers and a nico tool.
