Kolb Company completes it's first light sport aircraft the Sport 600
Last year Kolb became the U.S. distributor of Ultravia
Manufacturing's Pelican line of composite aircraft, and in May
began producing it's first Sport 600 under the builders assist
program. Ray Brown from Kolb's R and D department
began assisting Larry Spangler in building his Sport 600. The
craft took approximately 400 hours to complete minus paint and
upholstery.
The plane now has just over 50 hours of flight time on it and
was flown down from London Kentucky to Sun N Fun in Lakeland
Florida with just one stop, with an average groundspeed of 140
mph.
According to Kolb General manager Danny Mullins this was a
"test run for the build assist program for the Sport Pilot
program." Currently Kolb is in the process of setting up for
production of all the steel and aluminum components for
construction of the Sport 600 while Ultravia will be supplying all
of the composite materials.
The New Kolb Company is currently building a tail dragger
version of the Sport 600 and has two other kits in stock.
