Excalibur - A number of years ago I heard about an two place
ultralight trainer called the Excalibur. At Sun N Fun's Paradise
City I saw the Excalibur for the first time this year. The
Excalibur is a tandem seating two place, with dual controls. It's
basic power is a 503 Rotax, mounted upright using a 2.58 to 1
Rotax B gear box.
The plane on display in the ultralight camping
section, won "Best of Show" at a recent Indiana ultralight show
and is owned and was built by Richard Wright of Indiana. Richard
built his award winning plane in approximately six months. Richard has added a
number of his unique additions to his plane, these include a trap
door in his nose cone for easier access to the rear of the panel.
A storage area under the engine which is accessible via a door on
the side of the cockpit, and an extendable rear kick stand that is
used to support the rear of the plane during storage.
Richard flew his Excalibur down from Indiana with 3 other
ultralights. The trip took 13 hours over 2 days with a cruising
speed of about 75 mph. The group had a ground crew which met
up with them at every second stop - keeping the planes and pilots
fueled and fed.
