Challenger Mono Float system

Challenger Mono Float system

When the Challenger ultralight was first introduced back in the mid 80's one of their dealers in Florida came out with a modification that bolted a single float onto the main body of a single place Challenger making it into a float plane.

This year at Sun N Fun Bob McDonagh of Del Tura N. Ft. Myers Florida had on display a two place Challenger with a single mono float hull and two sponsons.  According to Jack he purchased the original prototype single place ultralight aircraft.

Bob indicates that with their being nearly 4 two place Challengers for every single place he felt that their would be a better market for a two place mono float system and so is looking at bringing out a kit which will be retrofitable to existing two place Challenger aircraft.

The kit will bolt on in about an hour, and feature retractable landing gear, and converts the normal nose wheel Challenger into a tail dragger, with the tail wheel being attached to the back of the mono float.

To install the kit the owner will remove the original gear, including the nose wheel, bolt on the hull, and install the retract system.

The float will be made from Kevlar, and composite materials and should weigh in at around 150 lbs.
