BRS ballistic parachute save #108

After preparing with numerous crow-hop flights, a 120-hour General Aviation pilot took his Kawasaki-powered Weedhopper up for a flight. When the engine quit abruptly, James Baker was faced with few options so he deployed his BRS-5 unit. The aircraft suffered only minor damage and Baker was unhurt.

"'Fly the Plane' kept going through my head. I initiated a shallow turn and cleared some of the trees lining the north end of the airport. But I found myself heading for more. I was out of choices, so without hesitation, I pulled the handle on the BRS parachute. BAAAMM!" I felt my forward motion slow. Even though I was too low for my parachute to completely slow my descent, it slowed me enough to keep me out of the trees of the east side of the airport."

Result: Pilot Survived!
