BRS ballistic parachute save
#104 |
Owner Paul Maeder had expert help building his Challenger
single-seat ultralight. He also sought the services of a talented and
very experienced pilot (Chas Laversa). During the aircraft's first test
flight, the wing failed!
"Fortunately I added a BRS 750 VLS to my plane.
When the wing folded, it covered the BRS with two layers of tough,
Mylar-coated Dacron. Examination showed the rocket may have struck a
tube on the way out.
I still have complete faith in the Challenger but, you're right,
"Safety never looked so good."
Result: Pilot Survived!
