One of the sleekest and fastest looking aircraft in the ultralight
section at Airventure this year had to be the Lafayette Sportster
from American Ghiles Aircraft. The Sportster features a carbon epoxy

aluminum.
The planes is being offered in kit form which should take approximately 700 hours to build. With the wings, fuselage, and control surfaces built in fully supervised workshops set up by the distributor, over a three week period, using production assembly jigs. The cabin width is a roomy 44 inches. Empty weight comes in at just over 550 lbs. and the plane grosses out at 1080. Cruise speed is quoted as 204 mph at 75% power on the Rotax 914 (engines from 80 to 115hp are available). Take distance 433 ft., stall 57 mph and climb rate an astounding 2046 fpm! Control systems are standard dual stick and rudder. For more information contact: AGA Canada and USA Head Office |
